Sleights Village Pump - maintenance work!    26 September, 2024

The Old Village Pump was installed in 1859 to supply water to surrounding houses.  It was last used in 1930, when the Great Flood washed away the water mains.  In older days, a set of stocks stood here.

Eskdaleside cum Ugglebarnby Parish Council is responsible for ensuring this iconic piece of history is maintained for future generations.  The parish council is currently undertaking a renovation programme.  This includes renovating the pump mechanism and updating the fencing and gate access.

The NYC Skills for Work Team (sponsored by AngloAmerican as part of their community sustainability programme) have been busy renewing the fence and gate at the Village Pump Site, and it looks tremendous!  Many thanks to the Team for this work.
