The Council are consulting on a North Yorkshire Council wide Self-build and Custom Housebuilding Register with eligibility criteria to include a local connection test and an administration fee. This new register will replace the individual registers held by the legacy councils. 

A report setting out the proposed approach was considered by the Community Development Directorate – Executive Members and Corporate Director Meeting on the 11 October 2023.  The report signed off on the 11 October recommends consultation on the proposed introduction of a Part 1 and Part 2 Self-build and Custom Housebuilding Register with local eligibility criteria and an administration fee for inclusion on Part 1.

The Consultation  

This consultation seeks to gather the views of individuals and groups currently on the legacy council’s registers, parish and town councils and Division Members (where there is no parish/town council) on the proposals to: 

1.   Introduce a local connection test for inclusion on Part 1 of the register. This requires a person to be a resident or have a proven connection with North Yorkshire as set out in the report (link above); and to 

2.   Introduce a fee of £123 for inclusion on Part 1 of the register. 

Please note that the if a person has already paid a fee for inclusion on one of the former Self-build and Custom Housebuilding registers they will be exempt from paying this fee. 

The consultation runs for 4 weeks with the deadline for submitting representation midnight on 23 November 2023 and all comments must be submitted in writing to

selfbuildnyc@northyorks.gov.uk.
